Our clients include doctors, business owners, executives, public officials, attorneys, stockbrokers, and other people with careers and much more at stake. We have handled the most serious felony charges, including homicide, robbery, fraud, public corruption, drug trafficking and racketeering.

Modern Success With Old School Methods

LaRene & Kriger PLC accepts only a limited number of cases so we can mount the sophisticated and spirited defense our clients need. Our attorneys do all the work themselves – the research, motions, briefs, everything – rather than delegating these tasks to a paralegal or law clerk. This approach ensures that every aspect of the defense receives first-rate attention.

Our firm also has in-house forensic computer evidence capabilities – a rarity among criminal defense lawyers but invaluable in complex cases where electronic evidence can be of great importance. We stay current with evolving laws and technologies, but hard work and attention to detail never go out of style.

Notable Results in High-Profile Cases

These are just a sample of noteworthy cases in recent years. For every highly publicized case,
there are many more in which our intervention kept clients out of the spotlight – and out of prison.

Acquitted Of Public Corruption

LaRene & Kriger successfully defended former Macomb County prosecutor Carl Marlinga on charges of taking bribes and violating federal election laws during his congressional bid. After Mr. Marlinga was acquitted by a jury on all counts, he later went on to become a judge.

Acquitted Of Murder

We represented one of three teenagers accused in the shooting death of a Rib Rack restaurant manager during a robbery. Although his co-defendants tried to portray Jerome Hamilton as the trigger man, our client was acquitted at trial and the others were convicted.

Defense In Famous Hitman Allegations

Mark Kriger represented Grosse Pointe businessman Bob Bashara who was charged with solicitation to murder, arranging to have his wife’s confessed killer killed.

Acquitted Of Organized Crime

In a case known locally as the Wolverine Golf Club trial, Mr. Kriger successfully defended Leonard Torrice who was charged with racketeering, money laundering and conducting an illegal gambling business. After a three-month trial, Mr. Torrice was acquitted of all charges.

Charges Dismissed In Flint Water Case

Mark Kriger and Deday LaRene defended Stephen Busch, one of the public officials prosecuted for the Flint drinking water crisis. He pleaded to a misdemeanor charge which was later dismissed, avoiding prosecution for serious felony charges of official misconduct, evidence tampering and violating the Michigan Drinking Water Act,
